To get a driver’s license in Texas as a teen, you’ll need to provide the followingdocuments:
Proof of identity: A passport or Texas ID card, or other secondary or supporting documents
Proof of Social Security number: Your Social Security card, or other options if you can’t find it
Proof of Texas residency: A current deed, mortgage, mortgage statement, residential rental or lease agreement, or a valid Texas voter registration card
Proof of vehicle registration and insurance: Proof of your or your parent’s car insurance and motor vehicle registration
Proof of school enrollment or graduation: A VOE form; high school diploma, or GED
Drivers Ed certificate: Also known as Form DE-964 or DE-964E,this is sent to you by your drivers ed provider after you complete the course
All documents presented must be printed and contain your name and Texas residential address.
To get a driver’s license in Texas as an adult, you’ll need to provide the following documents:
Application: A completed DL-14A application
Proof of identity: A valid US passport, birth certificate, Social Security card, or Texas ID card
Proof of citizenship or lawful presence: A copy of a US passport, birth certificate, alien registration card, or naturalization certificate
Proof of Texas residency: Two documents that show your name and Texas address, such as a mortgage statement, deed, or voter registration card e
Proof of vehicle registration: For each vehicle you own, you’ll need to provide proof of registration and financial responsibility, such as car insurance.
Drivers education: If you’re under 25, you’ll need to complete a 6-hourtreory course and pass a road test. If you’re over 25, you’ll need to pass a written test and a road test. You can take an adult drivees education course to prepare for the road test.
